WHAT WE DO
In many instances we have little control over what happens with us. However, we have every control how we choose to respond to these. The word respond instead of react is used deliberately, because when we react to a particular incident/event, that involves emotion, which can spiral out of control quite quickly. However, when we respond to a particular incident/event, that involves logical reasoning, which enables us to better manage ourselves and our emotions when facing that fear/incident/event.
At the Trauma & Phobia Clinic we deeply engage our clients, helping them to first understand the neuro-psychological dynamics underlying their trauma/fear/mood disorder, helping them to identify specific emotional triggers, thoughts and situations aggravating their level of distress, and supporting them in the implementation of psychotherapeutic strategies specific to their individual needs/requirements within a safe and secure therapeutic environment.
The principal psychologist, Hein Roth, is a certified expert in the treatment of a variety of Posttraumatic Stress Disorders, anxiety and phobic disorders, also including mood disorders. These include:

Programme Structure
Each treatment programme is carefully designed to suit the individual requirements of our clients. Psychotherapeutic sessions vary between 50 to 90 minutes per session and involves between 6 to 10 sessions, normally over a period of 6 to 12 weeks, depending on client progress. In the case of complex or ongoing trauma, psychotherapeutic sessions can involve more than 10 sessions.
As a rule, a typical treatment programme consists of the following phases:
- Initial assessment
- Psycho-education on the clinical neuro-psychology and underlying psychodynamics of the trauma/anxiety/stress/depressive response, as well as a programme overview
- Anxiety & panic release methodologies
- Psychotherapeutic support utilising an eclectic approach consisting of a combination of EMDR, CBT and other appropriate psychotherapeutic methodologies (e.g., mindfulness techniques, Cognitive Processing Therapy, etc.)
Additional phases for the treatment of phobic disorders:
- Exposure Response Prevention Therapy utilising a variety of exposure techniques, also including the use of Virtual Reality technology
- In-vivo (real life experiences) Exposure Response Prevention Therapy
