There area number of referral options available to Australian residents, which may provide rebates and assist with the cost of sessions.
Medicare Mental Health Care Plans/GP Mental Health Treatment Plans
The Better Access to Mental Health enables Australian residents to access psychological services and gain a rebate from Medicare for a number of sessions per calendar year. To access this service and receive a Medicare rebate, clients must be referred by their GP or Psychiatrist, who will complete a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) or GP Mental Health Treatment Plan (GPMHTP). Clients are to present a copy of their Plan at the initial appointment.
Workers Compensation Claims & Motor Vehicle Accident Insurance
Clients residing in Australia who have registered a Workers Compensation claim or a motor vehicle accident insurance claim are normally referred by their GP. It is important that prior to making an appointment at The Trauma & Phobia Clinic, that Work Cover or the Insurer has accepted liability and pre-approval for sessions has been accepted. Clients are required to provide full details inclusive of a registered claim number and the Case Manager details at their arrival for the first appointment. In the case of an approved claim, we invoice Work Cover or the Insurer directly.
Private Health Insurance Rebates
A GP referral is not necessarily required when utilising private health care cover for psychological treatment. However, the responsibility for ascertaining eligibility for services rests with the client.
Rebates for sessions cannot be claimed from Medicare and private health care cover concurrently. Private health care cover can be utilised in the event of psychotherapeutic treatment extending more than the allocated Medicare sessions within any calendar year.
